Make an impact: Volunteer
Volunteering offers meaningful ways to get to know God, the Church and His people in a deeply fulfilling way. Volunteers are an integral part of the work of the Church and there are many ways to pitch in – through a local parish, Catholic Charities, or more than 50 ministries and initiatives. Consider sharing your time and talents and make a difference in others’ lives. Here’s information to help you take the first steps in becoming a volunteer:
Step 1: Register
The first step? Register as a volunteer by completing the required screening, which includes a background check and taking the diocese’s Safe Environment online training course. Go to CMG Connect Charlotte to sign up and get started.
Note: For volunteers who work with minors, the diocese has protocols that follow the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishop’s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. Learn more here.
Step 2: Find an opportunity that suits you
Once you have completed the volunteer screening process, some places to start are with:
- Your local parish
- Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte: Opportunities to lend a hand at their Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Lenoir, Murphy, North Wilkesboro or Winston-Salem location
- Airport Ministry
- Prison Ministry
- Teaching the faith to children as a catechist
- More opportunities are listed in our Resources section
