Special Needs Workshop:
Strategies for Teachers to Include and Catechize Students with Intellectual Disabilities
Date: Saturday, August 17, 2019
Location: St. Gabriel Catholic Church
3016 Providence Rd.
Charlotte, NC 28211
Pope Francis has called the Catholic Church to be a welcoming Church. As we welcome our students with special needs into our religious education classes it is important that we see each one as child of God with special talents and special gifts. When we teach a student with special needs, we may need to adapt our materials to help our student learn to love God.
In the time that we will spend together, we will explore how to welcome, include and catechize students with autism and other special needs. We will provide parish leaders and teachers with a guide for creating an environment that addresses the needs of students with physical, behavioral, developmental, and cognitive disabilities and how to welcome them into the life of the parish.
We will discuss the unique classroom management needs, with specific teaching strategies and resources.
