All are welcome to this rich liturgy in the African tradition that will set the tone for a New Year of unity and solidarity. Harambee is a Swahili word that means “pull together.” It served as a call for unity during the 1970s during the height of Pan-Africanism when many young African Americans sought ways to connect with the culture and history of their African heritage.
Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Charlotte, founded to celebrate Roman Catholicism in the spiritual, cultural and musical vernacular of Black people, has long celebrated Harambee. Join this cultural tradition and ring in the New Year with unity, solidarity and love for one other!
