Diocese-wide Programs & Initiatives

Our K-8 curriculum not only gives students deep and factual knowledge about the Catholic faith, but also invites them into a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ in and through His Church.

The Catholic Schools Office partners with Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Catechetical Institute (CI) to provide a local, mentored, substantive and engaging approach to disciple-making. The CI has over 200 workshops in a dozen ministry areas, adding 2-3 new workshops every month – all designed to provide a mentorship/pastoral accompaniment method of ongoing faith formation for faculty and staff.

The Catholic Immersion Initiative cultivates a comprehensive Catholic environment to edify, form and inspire our students, teachers and staff so that the Catholic faith “breathes freely.” This is accomplished through three main areas of focus: Permanent Structure Design, Rotational Displays and Music and Vocal programs.

Our Catholic schools cultivate talented, compassionate and successful members of society.

Education in Virtue is a process meant to enliven all aspects of our schools with the language and culture of virtue. In collaboration with the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, all of our schools have committed to implementing Education in Virtue. That includes teacher formation, a monthly spotlight on specific virtues, integration of social-emotional learning with virtue-based education, and deep integration into the community life involving families, codes of conduct, athletics, and virtually any place in which the language of virtue can be used to build up Christian discipleship throughout the school community.

As Catholic schools, the whole of the school is a ministry of the Church. In collaboration with the local pastor, or in some cases the pastors of the various “feeder” parishes, the head of school is the faith leader of the school. Additionally, especially as young people get older, a holistic program for the campus as a ministry is enacted through chaplains, campus ministry coordinators and faculty advisors. Altar guilds, Bible studies and rosaries, advocacy and charitable service are just a few of the ways campus ministry enlivens the daily life of our schools.

Each of our schools produces an annual ministry plan. School leaders (including principal, pastor/chaplain, and other representatives) meet regularly to plan activities and initiatives to highlight the Church’s liturgical calendar, Catholic feasts and devotions, and the local school’s traditions. These robust ministry plans include activities in 5 key areas: Evangelization & Catechesis, Pastoral Care, Prayer & Worship, Community Life and Virtuous Leadership.

Our Catholic identity is integrated into all that we do, from our academics to the arts and athletics. All are welcome to join our faith-filled classrooms as we participate together in Holy Mass, daily prayer, and spiritual development. Our intentional Christian community models Christ’s love in the way we interact with each other and pursue excellence together.
