Childhood & Adolescent Mental Health: Prevalence, Common Signs, Strategies & Resources.
(Presented by Emily Hogan, LCSW-A and Bryan Sullivan, Supervisor, Counseling Program Catholic Charities Charlotte)
Join Catechetical Leaders from around the Diocese of Charlotte as we come together to address statistics and the prevalence of various mental health concerns, common signs of mental health concerns, and strategies for supporting children/adolescents and their families. Also, we will discuss the counseling program offered through Catholic Charities and how to access these services regional within the Diocese of Charlotte.
Emily Hogan is a licensed clinical social work associate currently serving as a therapist at St. Mark Catholic Church. Before earning her master’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, she completed a master’s degree in Higher Education in Student Affairs at Miami University. She worked in residence life at Davidson College, providing crisis response and student support. Emily also served as a middle school youth minister for three years. Over the past decade, Emily has taught Mental Health First Aid, increasing awareness of mental health concerns and combating stigma. Through her work in youth ministry, higher education, and mental health counseling, Emily has worked closely with children, adolescents, parents, and families navigating various mental health concerns.
Bryan Sullivan graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD with a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology in 1996. I started out from 1996 to 1998 and worked as a clinical supervisor and mental health therapist, overseeing staff providing direct care, provided mental health therapy and groups for residents, and I developed and oversaw the implementation of behavior modification plans for adults with developmental disorders and mental health issues in a residential treatment setting. I went on from there to work as a general outpatient mental health therapist for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health from 1998-2004. From there I worked for a private practice for a year until joining Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte mental health counseling program in 2005. I worked as a general outpatient mental health therapist from 2005 until 2013 where I was promoted to supervising this program which I continue to do along with continue to provide outpatient care. Concurrent with working with Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte mental health counseling program, I worked as a contact outpatient mental health therapist for a private practice in Gastonia, NC from 2009-2013 as well. Presently I work with adults and couples and treat a wide range of mental health conditions from a wide range of conditions to include but not limited to: stress, relational and life adjustment issues, clinical depression, various anxiety disorders, trauma related conditions and obsessive compulsive disorder.
