On 15 September 1950, the first Immaculate Conception Church in Forest City was dedicated by Bishop Vincent Waters of the Diocese of Raleigh. Immaculate Conception began as a mission of St. Mary’s in Shelby and did not recieve a resident priest until almost 20 years after its dedication. A new church was constructed and dedicated on 13 October 2010 but the original church remains and is used for daily Mass and Adoration.
