On January 30th, 1956, Bishop Vincent Waters of the Diocese of Raleigh dedicated the newly contructed church of St. Stephen in Elkin. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass had been offered in Elkin since the opening of St. John Baptist de la Salle in North Wilkesboro in 1952. St. Stephen’s remains a mission of St. John Baptist de la Salle.
