The new parish was placed under the patronage of the Holy Family largely because 1980 was proclaimed the “Year of the Family”. The first church for the parish was dedicated on March 10, 1985 by Bishop John Donoghue, who served as the second Ordinary of the Diocese of Charlotte. A new church was dedicated on November 27, 2005 by the current bishop of Charlotte, Most Rev. Peter Jugis.
