On 31 July 1971 the current Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Albemarle was dedicated by Diocese of Raleigh Bishop Vincent Waters. This new church replaced the original one which was dedicated in 1934. Rev. Anthony Kovacic, who served as pastor of the parish, oversaw the construction of the 380-seat church.
