On March 19, 1904, Mother Katharine Drexel and another Sister of the Blessed Sacrament arrived in Charlotte. They came to tour the churches and missions which the future saint helped establish. Among the many churches St. Katharine Drexel helped finance were St. Peter's in Charlotte and the Belmont Abbey Basilica. One of her requirements for churches seeking her financial assistance was that they must reserve pews for African Americans.
